HERO ATTRIBUTES

POWER

The combined attribute of mainly STR(Strength) and STA(Stamina), and some minor attributes (Leech, DEF, Burst Period DMG, Extra DMG, etc). Unfortunately, I still can't figure out the exact formula for Power calculation because Power increases exponentially, but one thing I am certain of is that STR adds much more points to Power compared to STA. This is the main attribute that (quite accurately) measures and determines the overall capability of your hero.

ATK (Attack)

ATK= total STR
The Primary Offense attribute which is the exact sum of the attribute STR(Strength). It basically determines how much damage your hero can deal against opponents. This attribute affects Power the most.

HP (Hit Points)

HP =  x total STA
(x being a coefficient specific to each hero)
The Primary Defence attribute which is the exact sum of the attribute STA(Stamina), multiplied by a specific coefficient unique to each hero. The higher the coefficient, the tankier the hero. When your hero receives damage, points get deducted from your total HP, and you lose the game if your HP reaches 0. This attribute does not affect Power as much as ATK does.

LEECH

+1 point Leech = +10 point Power
(1:10 ratio)
A minor attribute that directly affects Power without affecting ATK and HP. It allows your hero to recover a small amount of HP from every successful blow dealt against an opponent. Exact HP leech analysis still pending.

DEF (Defence)

+1 point DEF = +2 point Power
(1:2 ratio)
A minor attribute that directly affects Power without affecting ATK and HP. It is assumed that DEF is associated with a hidden "DMG Reduction" attribute, reducing the damage dealt on you by enemies, presumably by a certain percentage.

BURST PERIOD DMG

+1 point Burst Period DMG = +0.5 point Power
(2:1 ratio)
A minor attribute that directly affects Power without affecting ATK and HP. Judging from its name, it is a situational buff that activates when your hero has Burst activated.

EXTRA DMG

+1 point Extra DMG = +1 point Power
(1:1 ratio)
A minor attribute that directly affects Power without affecting ATK and HP. Judging from its name, it is supposed to grant bonus damage to all forms of attack.

HERO IMPROVEMENTS

BOND

Every hero has connection links that they share with specific predetermined heroes. The connection links either buff the hero (indicated by blue arrows called Bonds) or suppress the hero (indicated by red arrows called Restraints). The links are known to change constantly to accommodate the release of new heroes so they are not definite.

Bond links grant your hero bonus ATK and HP. Currently the maximum number of bonds a hero can have is three. The boosts are specific and dependent on the heroes that provide the buff, which means the higher stats the bond hero has, the more buff is granted to his link recipient... to a limit. When the buff has reached its maximum limit, the excess buff beyond the limit will be "spilled", meaning the extra stats will not be applied to the linked hero. The limit increases along with the boosted hero's level. Also, the hero receiving bond boost must be at least lv23 to activate the boost.

Restraint links grant your hero 30% more damage against heroes he can restrain, but he also receives 30% more damage from heroes who can restrain him. Only one specific hero restrains another specific hero. In other words, every hero restrains one hero and gets restrained by one other hero.

You can see from this picture that Jin gets buffed by 3 heroes: Noel, Bang and Hazama (locked). Bang can buff Jin to a maximum of 4050 STR and 37648 HP but Bang's stats aren't sufficient to grant that amount of buff. Noel however has stats exceeding the maximum buff limit, so the excess 28437 HP is spilled.
Jin restrains Makoto so he deals 30% damage more against Makoto. Jin is restrained by Platinum so he receives 30% more damage against Platinum.

SKILL

Your hero's skills are his combat moves. Spend Seithr and Skill Points to upgrade your hero's skills. Seithr can be obtained from Infinity Tower and strongholds, whereas Skill Points regenerate over time (and it regens rather quickly, not worth purchasing IMO). Upgraded skills have improved damage output and armor breaking capability, and are limited by your hero's level. If your level is 40, you can't upgrade your skill beyond the lv40 limit.

The Skill menu is complete and a handy place for you to view and learn your hero's full combos. All the skills in the menu do not require unlocking to use, except some of the skills in the Special tab. Burst is a skill every hero has that requires unlocking. When your rage meter is full, tap the shining blue button that emerges to activate burst, which grants you super armor, enhanced speed and damage for a brief moment. Astral skill, also owned by every hero and requires unlocking, takes things one step further by tapping the blue button again when you are in burst mode (needs 2 full meters), kind of like an extension from burst. Your hero will perform a rather lengthy animation granting him invincibility frames throughout the animation, then deal damage to all surrounding enemies, and then leave a fancy ASTRAL FINISH announcement plastered across the screen. The next unlockable skill is the Distortion skill, every hero owns one and utilizes it differently (Devoured by Darkness in the example below). The distortion skill is performed by holding (not tapping) and may consume rage to execute. Every hero owns these three skills in their Special tab that requires them to level up before they can unlock them.

Another three noteworthy skills I should mention are the fall recovery skills. Recover is executed by swiping left/right to roll, moderate invincibility frames. Down Counter by swiping up, instantly attacks enemy after falling, short invincibility frames. Crouch by swiping down, recovers from falling and enters crouching stance and can't be attacked (can attack from that stance though), very long invincibility frames .

Last Special tab skill is Block, every hero has it in his skill menu. Enable blocking by holding onto a "hidden button" above the direction keys. If you block an attack successfully, points get deducted from your Block Stamina based on how hard it hits. If the attack damage is more than Block Stamina, the blocking won't succeed. Lost stamina recovers over time. Level up your Block skill to increase Block Stamina and faster stamina recovery.

Special Skills of Ragna the Bloodedge. Skills on the left are unlockable specials. Skills in the middle are fall recovery skills. Skill on the right is the block skill.

TRAINING

Training mode a.k.a. Military Academy, provides you with a stage and a training dummy (unfortunately can't be configured to attack). Training is unlocked when your hero has ??? [what requirement]. Training gives you challenges in the form of combos which reward you Seithr and Skill upon clearing successfully. The rewards are only given for first time clearing, not from subsequent clearing. The challenges progress from basic combos to more complex mix of various combos, which also grant better rewards as you advance further. The challenges are categorized into Basic, Senior, Advanced, Superior and Ultimate. There is also a freestyle mode where no challenges are given to you and you can do as you like in it.

PROMOTION

Starting from level 5, and in every consecutive 5 levels, you can promote your hero to greater ranks. Hero Promotion is a permanent upgrade which has fairly easy requirements in the earlier ranks but the requirements get significantly tougher as you advance further. Promotion typically has a level requirement, and in higher ranks have an additional requirement which usually involves having x number of heroes promoted to y rank. Promotion materials include various souls, hero cards specific to the hero being promoted, and Hero Draft Orders. Promotion grants you a permanent +STR and +STA boost.

EMBLEM

Hero emblems are, just like in Hero Promotion, permanent upgrades to your character's stats. Hero emblem has a Life Force and a Power Force. Both Forces' highest attainable level are based on your hero's current level. A hero at level 40 can only level up his forces till level 40. Life Force (increases HP) can be leveled up by spending Coins, while Power Force (increases STR) is leveled up by spending Seithr. Sometimes when you pump coins and seithr into the emblem, you may get 1.5x - 3.0x leaps in EXP, cutting down your expenses. If you want to save coins and seithr, do not use the Quick Upgrade feature as it automatically consumes the maximum amount of resources (no EXP leap in this).

See Emblem table here.

FACTOR

Factors are hexagonal, collectible symbols that you typically obtain from Online Co-op (unlocks after clearing stronghold 80) and Mysterious Store. There are 6 different factors in total, each granting a different buff when equipped and is differentiated by color. Each hero can equip up to maximum 6 Factors (need at least Emblem Life Force lv40 and Power Force lv40 to unlock all six sockets!) There are also various factor combinations which give you bonus buffs if you have the specific combination of Factors equipped on your hero. Factors have a basic level of level 1 and the highest attainable level for Factors is level 7. Factors are upgraded to the next level by fusing three of the same factor type and level i.e. fuse three lv1 blue Factors to obtain one lv2 blue Factor, fuse three lv4 green Factors to obtain one lv5 green Factor.

Factor types:
  1. Vampire (Red) - basic buff is Leech.
  2. Resist (Purple) - basic buff is DEF.
  3. Vigour (Blue) - basic buff is STA.
  4. Surge (White) - basic buff is Burst Period DMG.
  5. Excess (Yellow) - basic buff is Extra DMG.
  6. Force (Green) - basic buff is STR.

Read more about Factors and Factor combinations here.

REFINE

Refining is also a hero upgrade (not equipment) that is permanent to the hero. Refining gives you bonus base STR and STA in fixed percentages AND additional STR and STA boost based on the equipment stats that you have equipped to the refined part. Your hero has 6 different parts that can be refined which are Hands, Head, Body, Arms, Legs and Neck. Refine level maxes at level 8. You also get a gem-like symbol above the refined part that changes appearance with refine level.

Refining indeed sounds tempting, but it is strongly advised to AVOID refining early in the game because of one great flaw- very costly materials. Take caution, for refining consumes only at least orange equipment or higher, and the equipment material must be specific to the hero being refined. For example, you can't refine Ragna using Noel's guns. Orange rank equipment is very rare and hard to obtain especially for starting players. Refining gives only a relatively small boost and does not grant you substantial stats unlike your equipment. It is safe to refine only after you have obtained a decent number of orange equipment and have extras to sacrifice for refining.

All six Refine parts.

Hands part at Refine level 0, level 1 and level 2.

See Refine tables here.
